A surprising and enchanted green heaven!
I had an amazing stay at Aathma house, full of wonderful surprises.
To be honest, the few meters before arriving were confusing for me because of the sight of surrounding buildings and roadworks.
But I didn't know what to expect...
Once you walk through the door, you feel like you're in another world, a paradise of greenery and color.
The decor is very original, and there are so many objects to look at that you feel like you're in a museum.
Couldn't ask for a better first stop in Sri Lanka. The hotel is beautiful, and extremely comfortable, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Colombo but only about a 15-minute tuk-tuk ride away. Definitely recommend the Sri Lankan breakfasts, some of the best food we've ever had, a real treat. This is one of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed at, couldn't recommend it more!!
Very very impressed and surprised to see such a unique product tucked away in such a busy area. An oasis overlooking the Diyawinna lake. Everything is so lovingly curated, created, and crafted by the lady owner. Her remarkable non-conformist artistic touch is seen in every nook and corner of the property and even in each tree in the lush gardens. Rich stories are associated with each area or artifact as is the name of the establishment ‘Aathma’

We spent one night... not enough to enjoy all aspects of this place full of .. so many things: furniture, unique and colorful materials, lovely parrots climbing on your shoulders (if you want...). The staff is lovely and efficient. The owner very interesting and open. We really and a super good time.

Originally known as Kolomtota, the city served as the primary port for the 15th and 16th-century Kotte kingdom. Its strategic location attracted Arab traders, who called it Kalamba. This cosmopolitan character, however, also drew the attention of the ambitious Portuguese, who landed in 1505, initiating a period of Portuguese dominance that lasted nearly 150 years.

Despite the long Portuguese presence, surprisingly little remains of this era in Colombo. While Portuguese surnames scattered throughout the telephone directory and a handful of Roman Catholic churches and seminaries offer glimpses into the past, the city's physical imprint of this period is remarkably faint.
