The Transport Secretary has admitted to the confusion facing UK travellers following a split over quarantine rules between the home nations.

Wales is placing travel restrictions on Portugal, Gibraltar, French Polynesia and some Greek islands (including Crete and Mykonos) from today, meaning Welsh tourists in those countries will now have to self-isolate for two weeks upon their return.

Scotland is set to impose the same rules for Portugal and French Polynesia from 3am on Saturday, but England and Northern Ireland have made no further changes to their own quarantine lists.

Acknowledging that disparities in the UK's quarantine policies are causing bafflement among holidaymakers, Grant Shapps stressed there was little he could do.
