Welcome to Portugal. This country has maintained its borders since 1279 making it one of the oldest countries in Europe. Lisbon - the capital of Portugal - is one of the oldest city in Europe.
Portugal is known for its mix of stunning landscapes, colorful houses and old trams as well as the Atlantic Ocean, all of which you can find here in Porto, the second largest city in Portugal right after Lisbon.

Since 2001 Guimaraes historic town centre is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site for being an "exceptionally well-preserved and authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town" in Europe.
Guimarães also plays an important role in Portugal’s history because of the role it played in the foundation of this country. The city is often referred to as the "birthplace of the Portuguese nationality” because it is believed that Portugal's first King, Afonso Henriques, was born there,For some decades, Guimarães was the capital of the County of Portugal.
