Welcome to Lisbon!

Walking down the Calçada da Glória on a hot July afternoon is like slipping from the edge of a postcard into the living heart of Lisbon.

The old funicular prepares to creak its way up beside you and the heat is heavy, but a warm breeze drifts through the narrow streets, offering fleeting moments of relief.

At the base of the hill, you reach Restauradores. The stone underfoot radiates the sun’s weight, collected over long hours.

The square hums with movement: tourists scanning maps, locals weaving through the crowd, vendors calling out with cold water bottles and straw hats.

The obelisk stands tall and still, unfazed by the summer blaze, as cars flash by in glints of light.

You turn onto Avenida da Liberdade, and the city stretches out — broader, leafier, more composed. The wide sidewalks are shaded by rows of tall plane trees, their leaves rustling quietly in the breeze.

Here, Lisbon breathes a little easier. The wind moves gently through the avenue, lifting the edges of café umbrellas, stirring up scents of jacaranda and coffee.

There’s something cinematic about this walk — the contrast between sun and shadow, the steady rhythm of footsteps, the distant trickle of a fountain, and the constant sound of traffic.

Terraces slowly begin to fill as the day softens toward evening. The sky, still a cloudless blue, hints at hours of light still to come.

You move slowly, not out of fatigue but because Lisbon invites it. Each step along the avenue is a blend of elegance and grit, history and immediacy.

Even in the heat of July, the city doesn't overwhelm — it offers itself fully, sun-soaked and wind-kissed, always ready to be walked.
