Portugal and Spain '23 - Our wettest road-trip ever!

We had an amazing time on our road trip through Portugal and Spain in 2023. We saw some incredible sights, ate delicious food (who doesn't love tapas, paella, and pastel de nata right?), and met some wonderful people. But there was one thing that made our trip truly unforgettable: the rain.

It rained pretty much every single day of our trip and it came down in sheets. We even had a few days where we nearly gave up and stayed inside because the roads were too flooded.

But despite all the rain, we still had a great time. We made the most of it by exploring the cities on foot on walking tours, and playing 'dodge the showers'.

If you're planning a road trip through Portugal and Spain, especially at the end of the summer, be sure to pack for rain. But don't let that deter you from going. It's an amazing trip that you'll never forget.

Here are some tips for planning a road trip through Portugal and Spain:

- Do your research and choose the best route for your time and interests.
- If you're travelling out of season and the weather is forecast to be pants, don't book your accommodation in advance - we would have changed our schedule a few times it we didn't have pre-booked hotels.
- Be prepared for fearsome tolls on the Portuguese motorways (highways).
- Allow plenty of time for your journey, as there is a lot to see and do.
- Enjoy the ride!

Despite the fact we couldn't film much because of the weather we hope you enjoyed this video and if you have any questions or comments, do please leave a comment below.

Finally, if you're interested in Operation Mincemeat, it's all true. The deception most certainly changed the course of WW2 in the favour of the Allies and soon after the Sicily invasion Mussolini was removed from power and imprisoned. With Hitler believing the ruse in its entirety and moving the bulk of his troops to defend a non-existent attack on Greece and the Dardanelles, Glyndwr Michael's body undoubtably saved the lives of thousands of soldiers in Sicily. There's heaps of interesting info on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mincemeat
