Traditional fishing village, Ericeira developed a lot during the 19th century. due to the growing demand as a summer resort, while maintaining its original characteristics and its very own atmosphere.

This town is an excellent destination to visit because of the hospitality of its people, the beauty of the ancient village with its narrow cobblestone pathways, the sea, the fishing, the local culture, the food, the spectacular views of the Atlantic, and the surf.

Located about 50 km from Lisbon,18 km from Sintra and 8 km from Mafra. in an easily accessible area, its beaches are very popular during the summer, being considered one of the best in Europe for surfing. A special highlight, the Ribeira d`Ilhas Beach, where one of the events of the World Surfing Championship is held annually.

A stroll through Ericeira is also an excellent opportunity to taste the varied dishes of seafood and fresh fish, a gastronomic specialty of the region.

There are legends that the name Ericeira originally means "land of urchins", due to the numerous sea urchins that abounded on its beaches.

The Ericeira region is well known in terms of surfing due to the waves in the area, which surfers say are different. It has highly regarded beaches for surfing, such as Ribeira d'Ilhas beach (world surfing reserve), Coxos beach in Ribamar, among many others.

Kitesurfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding and stand-up paddleboarding are also widely practiced. Ericeira is the first world surfing reserve in Europe and the second in the world.

This village is also good for bathers, with many hotels and good quality beaches such as Praia dos Pescadores, Praia do Norte and the beaches of Coxos and São Lourenço in the neighboring village of Ribamar.

Sumol Summer Fest, the biggest popular music event, better known as tuga hip hop, takes place every year at Ericeira Camping, in June, bringing thousands of people, mostly young people, to Ericeira.

In addition to surfing and the different beaches, there are also several well-equipped hotels that provide fantastic experiences. Various activities, mostly related to surfing, are often included.
