St.Angelo fort is a fort facing the Arabian sea situated 3 km away from kannur,Kerala.A fort which is triangular in shape,the st.Angelo fort is also known as the kannur fort.Fort was built by the Portuguese viceroy Don Francisco De Almeda. Built in 1505,the fort was captured by the dutch in 1663 and later sold to the Ali Rajah of the Arakal dynasty.The fort was taken over by the British in 1790 and turned it into as their main army center in the malabar region.
The view of the mapila bay and dharmadam island are the primary attractions here.It is also famous for the use of laterite as the materials for the construction of the fort.Now it is under the archaeological survey of India.In 2014 Kerala tourism department started laser light show in the fort.Tourists are allowed entry everyday of the week between 8 am to 6 pm where 25 rs ticket for Indians and rs 50 for the foreigners.
