Soaring Over Faia Brava National Park Portugal

In this drone video footage I show the amazing canyon and steppe landscape of Faia Brava in north-eastern Portugal. It is an amazing natural landscape filled with a multitude of indigenous Eurasian flora and fauna species, including the impressive Eurasian Griffon, one of which you can see soaring past the drone to find a new thermal to glide upon.

The region has been largely rewilded from centuries of farming and is the largest natural park in all of Portugal. The biodiviersity of the region is continuing to recover and is supporting native plants, such as the holm, cork and pyrenean oak, native flowering plants and animals at every level of the food chain from rock geckos to wolves, shrews to lynxes.

This is also a dark sky region, given its incredibly low level of light pollution and elevation above sea level making it an excellent site for astronomy.

The Drone was set to fly through the canyon formed from the Coa River. The steep slopes of the river canyon are formed by granite outcroppings and cliffs which themselves shelter abundant populations of native wildlife.



This video was made possible by the wonderful group Rewilding Europe Portugal, which assisted me immensely in travelling to this amazing region and for allowing me to do drone filming in the area and to assist them with mapping and environmental monitoring in the region of Western Iberia.
