(EN) Burgau beach is located in the western part of the Algarve, between Lagos and Sagres. It is a former fishing village, where begins Natural Parc Costa Vicentina. It is known as the Portuguese Santorini (a famous greek touristic city) due to the white and blue houses and streets down the cliffs to the sea. The main attraction of this place is its small beach which is surrounded by cliffs that protect it from the strong winds, usual in the west part of the Algarve. It has clear waters because of its size and climate. The peak-season brings in a number of british and international tourists due to the available amenities but many of them prefer to live here all year round. In 2010, Burgau was voted by readers of the Lonely Planet as the "Quaintest Beachside Village" in Europe.
