The Guindais Funicular in Porto was reopened in 2004 and fully modernised after being closed for over a century. The original funicular service was opened in 1891 but due to an accident the funicular was shut down.
The single 1200 mm track extends 281 m and rises steeply (up to 32.5 degrees) before entering a tunnel near the top of the slope. A loop at the lower end of the tunnel allows the two cars to pass each other.

The funicular is open daily (excl. some national holidays) as follows:
Nov-Mar: Su - Th: 8 AM till 8 PM, Fr - Sa: 8 AM - 10 PM
Apr-Oct: Su - Th: 8 AM till 10 PM, Fr - Sa: 8 AM - midnight

Stations: Ribeira (lower) and Batalha (upper)
Car capacity: 25 passengers
