Pulau Ternate (Ternate Island) is a mysterious island in Indonesia. One of the main Islands involved in the attempt by the Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, and British, to take of the trade of nutmeg. Often referred to as "the spice islands", the European invasion of Indonesia is very under-played, considering nearly 90% of the Indonesian population was wiped out over the course of centuries. Fortunately the strong Indonesian people survived and thrived, and we are now left with the fragmented history from which we can try to glean some truth. Once again it seems these fortifications including the star forts are either themselves ancient structures or built on top of an ancient site. Though history tells us the European fight in Indonesia was for the spice trade, I think there is sufficient evidence to show they were actually there to find and secure these ancient sites or structures. This seems to be the case for most star forts and other ancient sites, as many explorers who discover these sites have some sort of knowledge of what they are looking for and where to find it. This is just a theory of what happened here, but it would explain things a lot better than the official story ! There are a lot more pics and video of each of these places online and a lot more very interesting information like how Francisco married an Indonesian woman and refused to go back to Malacca when told to return. His crew became mercenaries on Ternate ! Lots more to learn about this island and ancient Indonesia, check it out !
